The title is awful. The premise is absurd. The show was a NY Fringe Festival smash hit that went on to win three Tony Awards on Broadway.
In a drought-ravaged city, a huge corporation has regulated the city's water use by requiring citizens to pity a fee each time they use a toilet. Those who try to subvert the system are hauled off to a mysterious place called Urinetown as punishment. Wen one brave, lovestruck young man can stand the injustice and oppression no longer, he leads the people in an uprising and changes the world forever.
Freedom and justice. Jazz hands and chorus girls. Urinetown is the side-splitting send-up of greed, love, revolution, (and musicals!), that has it all.
